tripwolf: hungry for travel

29 09 2008

On July 1, 2008, a new social travel tool was introduced to the world: tripwolf.

tripwolf is an online travel-planning site that allows users to find information about locations they’d like to visit as well as provide information about where they have been or currently live for other users. The site takes a wiki-approach in that users can add and change information on the site. One of the best features of tripwolf, in my opinion, is the inside info provided from the travel “gurus.” People who have visited or lived in the destination provide insights from their personal experiences that would not appear in most travel guidebooks. The site boasts that “on tripwolf, travelers are guaranteed to find secret and off-the-beaten-path spots that are generally hard to find on web.”

Another positive and very up-to-date attribute of tripwolf is its convergence of numerous social media tools. Users can access tripwolf via a facebook application, upload photos with Flickr and videos through YouTube, and blog about their favorite travel experiences all on the tripwolf site. There will also be an iPhone application and online flight and hotel booking options in the future.

Because most travelers are now searching for individualized itineraries instead of prepackaged deals, tripwolf also offers a way for users to compile their favorite activities and restaurants in a “scrapbook.” They can then create their own personalized, printable guidebook to take on their vacation!

According to the tripwolf Web site, it is “a ‘one-stop shop’ where users can design their own trip with tips from the tripwolf community and an emphasis on the experiences of friends.” For the busy traveler of today, this site is definitely a giant step in the right direction for providing everything one could need all in one place.
